Tarawih Qiyamul Lail or Night Prayer During Ramadan is totally associated with the holy month of Ramadan. Basicallly Tarawih is an Arabic word which means night prayers in the holy month of Ramadan. The prophet of Islam Muhammad (PBUH) told us great significance of tarawih qiyamul lail or night prayer during Ramadan. Tarawih is not obligatory but there is great remuneration for those who pray tarawih during holy month of Ramadan. The Prophet (P.B.U.H) used to encourage night prayers during the month of blessings of Ramadan. The night prayer timings start after the obligatory four the rakah faraz, two rakah sunnah and two rakha nafils of Isha Prayer. This prayer can be offer alone or within the congregation but it much better to pray with imam. During the tarawih prayers imam recite the holy Quran from first surah to last surah. The name Tarawih or night prayer during Ramadan is due to the companions of the Prophet (P.B.U.H) and their successors used to stand long in the prayers and they would take rest after offering every four Rakah. This is how tarawih also named as Rest Prayer.

The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said about the Tarawih Prayer:

“The best prayer after the obligatory is the night prayer.” [Muslim]

Muslim women can also pray Tarawih Qiyamul Lail or Night Prayer During Ramadan in congregation too. This prayer has great reward so every Muslim should try to pray this prayer during holy month of Ramadan. The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said about the importance of prayers:

“The first of his actions for which a person will be held accountable on The Day of Judgment will be his prayers. If they are in order, then he will become successful, and if they are less, then he will have failed and lost. If there is something defective in his obligatory prayers, Allah will say: see if this person has any voluntarily prayers with which may complete that which was defective in his obligatory prayers. Then the rest of his religious duties will be judged in likewise manner” [Abu-Dawud


This prayer has great significance and reward, if a person prays Tarawih Qiyamul Lail or Night Prayer during Ramadan in the mosque with Imam and finishes it with the Imam he will gain the reward of praying for the whole night. So being a true Muslim it is our duty to pray tarawih in congregation during the holy month of Ramadan to gain special reward from the creator of this universe.

Tarawih Qiyamul Lail or Night Prayer during Ramadan is Sunnat Mu’akkadah for every Muslim. This prayer is offered after Isha prayer and before after Witr prayer. In this article you can find out the instructions to pray Tarawih after four obligatory Fardh and two Sunnat during the long Isha prayer. Taraweeh prayer method is quite very simple and straight.

Step No 1: Tarawih consists of 20 rakats in total but it is prayed in 10 equal sets of 2 rakats each. One must stand up and make Niyah for 2 rakats each time after 4 rakat fardh and two sunnat.

Step No 2: Pray these two rakats normally as according to your other two rakat prayers.

Step No 3: Similarly repeat nine more times, so that you will have prayed your total of 20 Rakats. It is suggested to sit a while after every 4 Rakats of tarawih prayer and recite specific dua during this time period.

Step No 4: After completing Tarawih prayer it is recommended to finish your Isha prayer with your 3 rakat Witr prayer. After it simply offer the left 2 rakat nafils and end the isha prayer.
