Last Ten Days and Five Odd Nights of Ramadan with the Night of Power

Ramadan is the gift of Allah for Muslims all around the world and especially the last five odd nights of Ramadan along with Itikaf during Ramadan have great significance. Laylat Al Qadr is hidden in these last five odd nights, mostly in on one of the odd nights (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or 29th) of the holy month of Ramadan. Laylat Al Qadr has various names such as Shab-e-Qadr, Night of Decree, Night of Power, Night of Value, Night of Destiny, or Night of Measures and The night better than a 1000 months. In Islamic belief, it is the night when the first verses of the Holy Quran were revealed to the prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In the holy month of Ramadan, the last ten days are measured to be more worthwhile. According to Muslims believe, the last ten days are the most blessed days in the holy month of Ramadan.

The last ten nights of the holy month of Ramadan are also referred to as the ‘odd nights’. In the last ten days of Ramadan Muslims take Itikaf and give Zakat al Fitr or charity to poor people. In the last ten days, Muslims give more charity and settle their disputes and forgive each other. The purpose of the Itikaf is to obey the Sunnah of the holy prophet (PBUH) and to find out the night of power in these last ten days and five odd nights of Ramadan.

Night Of Power or Laylat Al Qadr


During the last ten days and five odd nights of Ramadan, Muslims from all around the world seek to observe Laylat Al Qadr (The Night of power). It is generally observed on the 26th or the 27th night of the holy month of Ramadan. But the exact and most authentic way to find this night is full i’tikaf of ten days and nights. Every odd night can be the night of power but most of the Islamic Scholars believe on the 26th or the 27th night of Ramadan. Allah said in Holy Quran about the Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Power) in these words: This night is “better than a thousand months” and any act done on this holy night such as reciting the Quran, remembering Allah, seeking forgiveness of sins, etc. is better than acting for one thousand months which do not contain the night of Laylatul Qadr or night of value.

Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said about the night of power in these words: “Look for Laylatul Qadr on an odd-numbered night during the last ten nights of Ramadan (Bukhari)”. He further said about its importance in these words: “Whoever stands (in the voluntary night prayer of) Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven. And whoever spends the night of Lailat Al-Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.”

Night Better Than A Thousand Months


Make Special Arrangements for Laylatul Qadr or the night of Power or Night of Decree:

In the current month of Ramadan Laylat al-Qadr, 2018 is expected to begin in the evening of Sun Jun 10, 2018. The date may vary due to the sighting of the Ramadan moon. So be ready yourself for the night of value or night of power.

  • Clean your soul and body from sins and spare your time for deep and strong worship of Allah during these odd nights of Ramadan.
  • If possible do Itikaf for 10 days.
  •  Try to make special Duaa related to this night as our beloved holy prophet (PBUH) taught us, the words of this Dua are: “O Allah, You are pardoning and you love to pardon, so pardon me.”
  • Recite the holy Quran as possible because it is the night when the Quran was revealed on the holy prophet (PBUH).
  • Evaluate yourself and remember your sins and seek forgiveness of sins from Allah and also make long, sincere and deep Duas.
  • Promise with Allah to spend this life according to Allah and his prophet’s orders in every matter.
